6. Protection and conservation of biodiversity: heritage for life, development and health

Course Objectives

To provide the cognitive tools to focus and evaluate the benefits for human beings, and all their activities, arising from the actions of protection, conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Programme

This course will be structured in frontal, participatory and outdoor training lessons and also be carried out with the evaluation and “peer to peer” processing method and with final group essays. Participants will be able to relate and assess the existing situation in the reality in which they operate with the main legislative and regulatory instruments in the field, such as: the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); Global Strategies for Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development (SD); European Biodiversity Strategy; UN International Agreements on the protection and sustainable management of biodiversity.

At the end of the course, participants will also be able to recognise and highlight the connections between the heritage, represented by biodiversity and the habits, customs, traditions, economy existing in the reality in which they operate. The course also aims to provide the knowledge necessary to assess the role of biodiversity and the importance of its protection and conservation, in relation to the Health of Human Beings. It also carries out effective educational actions especially aimed at the up-coming generations for the development of responsible citizenship.
